File Explorer 2.0

  1. Create folders

  2. Rename folders/files

  3. Delete folders/files

  4. Download multiple files or perhaps folders

  5. Move/copy files

  6. Show sizes of folders so that techs can easily find offending large files/folders.

  7. Have a visual representation of the disk used space/free space

  8. Show contents and allow editing of text-based file types.

A drag and drop feature in the file explorer, with a bi-directional clipboard option would be fantastic!

Basic controls is really all I need, we need to remember the more data we try to see is more data that needs to be queried and more time for each folder to be loaded. But basically, we just need the usual suspects found in tools like AnyDesk or WinSCP. The ability to copy/paste files sounds nice, but it can get broken if you decide to copy something else to your clipboard before the file transfer completes. Honestly, I would rather the 'copy/paste' for files to simply be emulated, such that the agent scrapes the active window to determine the current path (assuming this is File Explorer), then uses the background file transfer to push the file and release my clipboard for other things. The whole task of trying to find large files, let me tell you about this thing called 'DiskUsage' (also 'du' in Linux): And editing text-based files is super-easy, barely an inconvenience in Windows 11 with edit: Edit has been around since the days of DOS.
